OUR ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
Every fall our members choose one or two local charity organizations to sponsor during the following year. Members take great pride in our communities and are committed to do what they can to give back and help those in need. This year we are raising funds for two very important groups that provide tremendous relief for many.
Meals on Wheels: This group in Eden Prairie leads the effort to make sure people in our community receive the nutritious meals and the human connection they need to help them live independent lives.
People Reaching Out to People (PROP): This group is based in Eden Prairie and provides help to families in need. PROP operates a resale shop and food shelf. This year we are specifically focusing on the food shelf.
A note from our Ways and Means Coordinator, Marleen:
The Newcomer Ways and Means Coordinator heads up all the fundraising activities for the year. You can be sure that a lot of fun has been shared at all the activities. The phrase coined last year that really sums up the whole experience of everyone working together is, "Fun, Friendship and FUNdraising!"
We have a fabulous committee, working on the 2011-2012 fundraiser event. The committee is full of great ideas, and we know our members are, too! This event will be full of silent auction items, raffle items, parties and service opportunities. Best of all, this is a chance for us to extend our hand of friendship to new members and those we may not have met before! Host a party, make a new friend, and raise money for our charities...What could be better than that?

COMPASSION AND PHILANTHROPY
Newcomers supported another deserving charity in December 2011, Clare Housing. We donated some of their wish list items that help them provide a sense of warmth and welcome to the residents. Clare Housing provides affordable housing, supportive services and compassionate care to people living with AIDS/HIV.
Our members were pleased to be able to help Clare Housing with some of their wish list needs.

For many years Newcomers of the Southwest Suburbs has supported Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) by volunteering to hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children in nearly 70 countries around the world. We work together at least once a year as a group and many members volunteer at different times throughout the year.
Our members are always eager and proud to help FMSC carry out the incredible work that they do throughout the world.
